We’re passionate about helping our community

Our Coalition

The Rock County Prevention Network is a coalition of community members working towards a common goal - the decreased substance misuse across the youth population in Rock County, WI. We look to provide resources to schools, parents, guardians, and more on how to handle such a challenging topic such as youth alcohol and youth drug abuse. It’s our goal to meet people where they are, educate, and support the youth and their loved ones in any way we can.

Our History

The Rock County Prevention Network is a substance use and misuse prevention “coalition of coalitions” focusing on the youth of Rock County and has served the Rock County community for over 20 years. The organization started in 1992 as “Partners in Prevention” and had a Federal Drug Free Community Grant for the county from 2000-2010. This county-wide organization eventually split off into individual coalitions in Edgerton, Evansville, Beloit, and Janesville, with their own Drug Free Community Grants in 2010. A few years later, these coalitions decided to come back together under the new name, “Rock County Prevention Network”. This was under the leadership of Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change, who had a contract with Rock County to administer the Youth Risk Behavior Survey to all the school districts, hold the “Rock for Recovery” event, and work with Place of Last Drink data from law enforcement. In 2019, the Rock County Prevention Network was under direction of Rock County Human Services to be a network of shared resources in the county and worked on many county-wide campaigns. We had funding from the Federal AODA Block grant funds and the State Opioid Response Grant.

In October 2023, we received the Federal Drug Free Community Grant as a new organization and are using the funds to reduce youth alcohol and prescription drug misuse in the county. We have representation from 12 different sectors and are continuously looking to build capacity and build new partnerships to fulfill our mission.

In 2024, the RCPN took steps to formalize the coalition structure to align with grant requirements. This included the election of an Executive Board and hiring a Project Coordinator.
